The Ribbon Cutting for the Poplar Bluff High School was held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 in the new Commons area of the High School. Retired Superintendent Chris Hon addressed the crowd of community leaders, faculty, staff and students. He thanked all involved with the school district’s development from its inception. DILLE TRAXEL Architecture collaborated efforts with Ittner Architects to successfully complete the project. Tours of the new facility were available after the ribbon cutting.
The new high school facility broke ground in June of 2015 at the present site of the Poplar Bluff R-1’s 5th & 6th grade center. As a result of the $50 Million levy that voters approved in 2014, the high school renovation was one of several projects that was accomplished. Over 130,000 square feet of much needed space to meet future student enrollment was added to the former location which included a new science wing, media center and centrally located commons area. The large campus already accommodates the Technical Career Center, an expanded band room, the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and athletics in an effort to provide additional safety for students at after school activities.
